Hirayu Bus Terminal is the gateway between Takayama, Shinjuku, Matsumoto, and Okuhida with several buses running daily. To book online bus tickets in advance, you can make a reservation at highway-bus.jp. This convenient bus terminal is also the only bus station with shuttle buses departing to Kamikochi (from the Takayama side). Located by Hirayu Bus Terminal are also rental e-bikes which can be used to access Kamikochi or Mt.Norikura.

Locker Information

Currently, the only luggage storage in Okuhida other than your hotel is at the Hirayu Bus Terminal. There are two different coin lockers at the bus terminal, one towards the front of the souvenir store and one located at the back of the terminal. Since it is an extremely popular transfer point, we suggest you secure your storage here well in advance, as the shuttle buses to Kamikochi depart every 30 minutes from 6:30 AM.

Location: In the front of the souvenir store, adjacent to the ticket office

The largest lockers available in Hirayu are located in front of the convenience store and bus terminal. You will need to provide ten 100 yen coins in advance. There is no money exchange machine, so please be aware of this.

There are a total of 32 lockers in the locker area behind the bus terminal. The small lockers are enough for a small backpack or some souvenirs while the medium or large lockers are suitable for carry-on luggage. Please check the measurements below.

Where to rent a bicycle in Hirayu

E-bike rentals can be made at Okuhida Base, a self check in bicycle rental station connected to the cafe and pizza store, AWAWA Hirayu, just a 2 minute walk from Hirayu Bus Terminal. E-bike rentals are popular for riding around Okuhida or to famous spots such as Kamikochi or Mt.Norikura. Reservations are made completely online and can be retrieved on your own with multilanguage options available as early as 7 AM. For detailed biking route information, check okuhidabase.jp.

How to book a bus ticket online


Reservations for buses departing from Hirayu Bus Terminal can be made online in advance, in case the ticket window is not open. There is a ticket office and ticket machine inside the bus terminal waiting room, however please note that tickets to local stops such as Takayama, Kamikochi, Mt.Norikura, and Shinhotaka Ropeway can only be purchased on the same day at the bus terminal. Shirakawago Bus Terminal

The Shirawakago bus terminal has multiple coin lockers located on the outside of the bus terminal. There are several bus transfers that can be made from this bus terminal. Lockers are quite spacious and can fit large luggage easily. You can also ask the bus terminal to hold your luggage if there are no more lockers available. It will be stored in a separate building by the bus station.
