On April 18, 2025, Terminal 2 opened at Kobe Airport as a new gateway for international travelers. With the opening of this terminal, Kobe Airport began accepting and operating international charter flights, making it easier to travel between Kobe and overseas destinations, as well as to reach Kobe, Himeji, Awaji Island, and the Shikoku area from abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kobe Airport is located close to Sannomiya, and one of its greatest advantages is the easy access to central Kobe by Port Liner train or airport bus. Terminal 2 is compact and easy to navigate, so international departure and arrival procedures are relatively simple, even for first-time visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we introduce Kobe Airport Terminal 2 based on our on-site visit, including its facilities, atmosphere, and useful tips for travelers. We also explain how to get from Kobe Airport to central Kobe, Arima Onsen, Himeji, Awaji Island, Universal Studios Japan, and the Shikoku area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 20 minutes to Kobe’s Central Area, Sannomiya Station<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Kobe Airport is located about 8km from Kobe’s central area “Sannomiya Station,” and offers excellent access by bus or Port Liner (train), making it a very convenient airport. Furthermore, direct buses operate to the nearest shinkansen’s (bullet train’s) station “Shin-Kobe,” making travel very smooth.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\u25a0 What is Kobe Airport Terminal 2?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kobe Airport Terminal 2 is a new terminal mainly designed for international flight passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until recently, Kobe Airport was mainly known as a domestic airport. However, with the opening of Terminal 2, it has become easier to use international flights to destinations such as South Korea, Taiwan, and China. The airport is also attracting attention as a new gateway to the Kansai region, especially for travelers heading not only to central Kobe, but also to Himeji, Awaji Island, Arima Onsen, Tokushima, Takamatsu, and other nearby areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited Kobe Airport Terminal 2 in person, so here we will introduce how to access the terminal and what the atmosphere inside is like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Get to Terminal 2 from Terminal 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After exiting Kobe Airport Terminal 1, you can see Terminal 2 on your left. The entrance is about a three-minute walk away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, please note that part of the route from the Port Liner station to Terminal 2 is not covered by a roof. On rainy days, we recommend bringing an umbrella. Since many travelers will be walking with suitcases, it is a good idea to allow extra time and check the weather before heading to the terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1st Floor: Check-in Area<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you enter Terminal 2, you will see an escalator leading to the second floor on the front right side. On the left side, the check-in counters are lined up in a row for passenger procedures. Because the terminal is compact, the flow from the entrance to check-in is easy to understand, even for first-time visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Terminal 2 is smaller than Kansai International Airport, this also makes it much easier to navigate. You can move smoothly from check-in to security screening without worrying about getting lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2nd Floor: Rest Area and Waiting Space<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After going up the escalator to the second floor, you will find a calm rest area with desks and chairs. Power outlets are available at every seat, so you can work on your laptop or charge your smartphone while waiting for your flight. This makes the time before boarding more comfortable and convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interior of the terminal was designed around the concept of \u201cfloating on the sea and feeling the forest.\u201d Wooden louvers are used on the ceiling, and natural light pours in through the large open atrium, creating a bright and spacious atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Observation Deck<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farther inside the terminal, you will find an observation deck. Since it does not face the runway, it is not a spot for watching airplanes up close. Instead, you can enjoy a relaxing view toward Kobe Port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the sea breeze and the peaceful port scenery, this deck is a great place to take a short break before your flight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, Terminal 2 may be compact, but it has everything you need for a comfortable start to your journey. Next, we will introduce how to get from Kobe Airport to major sightseeing spots and facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Access to Major Kobe Sightseeing Spots by CITY LOOP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From Kobe Airport, you can use the City Loop Bus to reach many of Kobe\u2019s major sightseeing spots, including Sannomiya Station, Nankinmachi Chinatown, Motomachi Shopping Street, Meriken Park, and Kobe Port Tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The City Loop Bus circulates around central Kobe approximately every 15 minutes. Some morning services start from Kobe Airport, so if you take one of these buses, you can travel directly to popular sightseeing areas in the city without transferring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sannomiya is the center of Kobe City and one of the city\u2019s most important transportation hubs. Major railway lines to Himeji, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara depart from Sannomiya Station. Many highway buses to Kobe Sanda Premium Outlets, Arima Onsen, Awaji Island, and Shikoku also depart from this area, making it a convenient base for sightseeing and shopping.
Kobe Airport has excellent access to Sannomiya, so we recommend using Sannomiya as your first base before heading to other destinations.
